FREMONT, Calif.- November 06, 2003 - Vialta,
Inc. (OTC:VLTA) today announced that Belgian telecommunications
company Belgacom has selected the Vialta Beamer
as the videophone solution for its customers. This follows
an earlier announcement made by Portuguese telecom company
PT Comunicações, S.A that the Beamer
videophone is available to its customers.
Belgacom
will be marketing Beamer videophone, co-branded by Vialta
and Belgacom, to its customers under the name "Visto",
and Belgacom sees the Visto as an attractive product
that allows people to share experiences and emotions
more fully across cities, countries-even continents.
"The
largest target, or rather, the most obvious target on
the residential market is separated families, such as
parents and children who, for whatever reason, are unable
to see each other during the week. Belgacom and Vialta's
Visto makes it possible for them to see each other through
video as they communicate, which helps them convey their
emotions," said Johan Merlevede, marketing director
for Belgacom. Lian Verhoeven, Belgacom's spokesperson
continued, "This is a new device on the telecommunications
market which demonstrates that the fixed line is still
a valuable product and continues to be very useful for
a great many people."
"Vialta
is excited to be working with Belgacom, and this partnership
highlights our vision to offer products that enhance
the way people communicate and help them stay connected
in a better, more personal way," said Didier Pietri,
Vialta's president and chief executive officer. Pietri
continued, "This deal further emphasizes our commitment
to making Beamer available worldwide and giving everyone
an easy way to see loved ones as often as they'd like."
Beamer
instantly adds video to phone calls, allowing consumers
to hear and see the person they are speaking with. Beamer
works with any home phone over a standard (analog) phone
line, and there is no additional cost to phone calls.
Beamer
is a multi-award winning product, garnering accolades
from the Consumer Electronics Association and Good Housekeeping
magazine. Recognition and honors from both of these
organizations reinforce Vialta's dedication to creating
consumer products that are technically innovative, easy
to use, aesthetically pleasing, and add value to every
day life.
